The Artist-Storyteller
I like to tell stories! That's what I do for fun, when I just want
to play with my art for the sheer joy of creative expression.
For, you see, I'm a writer at heart. That's what I do for a living, and
it's also my art--it's how I express myself. I see things in my mind's eye, I conceptualize them, and I put them
on paper.
Drawing on an extensive liberal arts background and education, and also
from the well of a rich and varied personal life experience, my writing is prolific and varied. I am equally comfortable
writing research papers and essays as I am with spinning tales of romance, intrigue, and adventure, full of plot
twists and fanciful imaginings.
Depending on the themes or motifs I'm dealing with--which range from
expositions to allegories, dramas to parables, exposes to modern myths--I may choose to express myself in prose
or in the poetic language of allusion and metaphor, using rhyme and metre as well as blank verse.
Thus, the right use of language is very important to me. My primary tools
are the languages of words and pictures, created through the use of pen and paper as well as state-of-the-art technology.
But language is merely an Effect, not a Cause. The stories are born in
my Heart and in my Mind, when I sit quietly and wait for the Muse to speak to me.
In that sacred space within myself, I open my mind's eye, let my imagination
run free, and watch expectantly to see what shows up. It's always something new, something exciting, but rarely
what I'm expecting.
Therein lies the mystery--and the joy!
